In 1974, when his hit film 'Sleeper' was ignored by the Academy, Woody Allen was quoted by ABC News as saying, "The whole concept of awards is silly. I cannot abide by the judgment of other people, because if you accept it when they say you deserve an award, then you have to accept it when they say you don't".
First of all, let me say to Glenn that you've been doing a great job, and you can't let one dude, or even two or three, saying negative crap to get to you. Do you know how many horrible things I've been called? You need to keep the skin thick and impervious - but I know that can be difficult. If you believe people when they say you're doing great, then you feel you have to believe them when they say you're not...
...or, as in my case, you can get into childish arguments trying to defend yourself, alienate even more people, and then eventually decide you've had enough foolishness and depart altogether.
In your case, Glenn, you're about as nice a guy as they come, so I imagine it's difficult for you to not take such inane talk personally (believe me, I know the feeling)...
That said, I have brought this situation to the attention of Bawful himself, who has in fact been casually pondering the idea of returning, and he has asked me to present this:
Bawful will consider returning to contribute to post-season analysis if there is sufficient interest from the Bawful community. At the end of that time, he will engage in verbal intercourse (ha, I said intercourse) to gauge how much people want him back for next season, and whether it's in the cards for him to find the inspiration to return.
If you want to resurrect the body of Jason Voorhees for this post-season, write as much in a comment. Go ahead, kiss up. He'll read it, and decide whether to once again wield his bloody machete into that goodnight, leaving the bodies of self-centered incompetant players and coaches in his wake.
Your move, Bawful community.
Do what you want.
I still check this site daily, hoping that there's an update. It's always fun to read the bawfulness around the league.
"If ya don't care either way, what are you doing here?"
You can tell Bawful for me that I am honestly AMAZED by how consistent and entertaining he was able to be over the years. It's superhuman. I was barely able to make it through a season, yet somehow he made it look easy, providing informative entertainment morning after morning like some force of nature. And I for one would love to see a bolt of lightning coursing through his veins as he sinks a machete into some fresh skulls.
(I supposed that could be a reflection on my surfing preferences too, I guess)
I still remember laughing at all the early daily posts, and lacktion / trillion / super mario made its way into my water cooler talk with the folks at work. Come back if you feel inspired to do so, the laughs is good for everybody!
I too enjoyed the satirical coverage provided in years past and am sad that it's slowly decaying. As good of a job Glenn did, he's not Bawful nor ET, and his jokes just didn't hit home for me.
I used to laugh out loud, at work, at Bawful's and ET's jokes and I followed religiously the summer series of the mystery NBA player/roommate. Quite frankly, even though I still get the posts through RSS, now I just read the headlines and subtitles.
Playoff coverage will be great, and I'll be back to comment when the time comes for Bawful to gauge interest in a formal return.
Miss the college (that serbian player) series and pick up ball series, and everything in between.
Ive enjoyed glenn's posts too btw.
keep it alive!
I still keep bawful in my feed reader and highly enjoy the writing of glenn, evilted, and of course the Great Bawful himself.
Please keep writing, and I'll keep laughing!
This is worse than a high school girls blog right now
Sincerely,
disillusioned NBA fan from Germany.
It's a shame really. A talent like yours deserves more compared to the other so called 'analysts'.
My qualifications include writing for (or essentially being) NBA Cool Dudes and having writing samples rejected by TWO Trail Blazers blogs.
Sort of hard to compete with Bawful himself, so I'm just merely mentioning that I am able to write stuff good for absketball understading in case one of my favorite sites wants my help. Just sayin' is all.
you do a fantastic job. I, like yourself started writing for this blog last summer. And it's not easy. Hell, at my peak I only posted once a week. So for you to take on Worst of the Night like you have...you've earned my respect.
I would like for more people to contribute going forward. Like others have said in the previous set of comments, this place it best when we have various styles and voices flying all over the place. I'll make the pledge to become more active on the blog. Hopefully others can join in as well. In fact I have something brewing right now.
Basketbawful for president 2016.
My heart yearns for your daily bawful writing. End my despair, come back into my life.
Hell i even named my fantasy team after this site.
# hastag # YOLO to quote a friend
It's obvious Glenn can't keep up the pace all by himself.
Where are other writers?
And it needs to flow freely, pressure kills fun quickly. If it becomes job, it won't be funny.
I think Bawful occasional post will make this site alive, and we'll get more contributions from other writers too.
Thought the First: Glenn has been doing a good job, but this is really too much for one person. Snarky comments written well is hard enough, but real analysis is even more difficult. I was always astonished that Matt could churn out the amazing content he did while have a Clark Kent job to boot. No wonder his torrid affair with Scarlett Johansson left him no time to blog. But let me toss out the notion that several people could lay out a schedule, and it would not then be overwhelming. You could even have a calendar.
Thought the Second: having a relatively intimate corner of the internet to yourself is a priceless commodity {aside: I accidentally wrote "inmate corner" in that sentence. Freudian slip?}. There was a fun cast of regulars here before, enough to give it some real depth, but few enough for the personal connection that leads to some fun banter. And, it was small enough that users would send stuff to Matt, Ted, AK Dave and friends to help out with the scouting.
Thought the Third: I always tried to participate in my little way, sending pics via email or commenting here. This sustains the community a bit. I have valued the tenor of the place, and hoped it would survive and thrive. It is also one of my top surfing destinations, even though I've been working 80 hour weeks. I'll note that at Grantland I read only Simmons (as a former musician, I find the guy who writes on music to be an idiot, and the rest of the crew a mixed bag). ESPN is a 95%, consisting mainly of page view whores (though granted some of those guys are somewhat talented, being forced into writing tabloid garbage for the profit margin of management. Finally, I don't give a crap about sports other than Basketball, mostly NBA and a smidge of NCAA. So Basketbawful was perfect. I appreciate the heroic efforts of guys like Glenn trying to keep a special thing going. I'd contribute if I could, but I do hope that some intrepid soul(s) can make a go of it, even if that means tag-teaming. If Matt can pull the occasional cameo, that's great. But real and consistent basketbawful fun is what I'm looking for, and hoping can return to its former robustness.
Which really isn't a coherent third thought, but rather several stream-of-consciousness thoughts jumbled together. But the point is that I really value this place.
@Stockton: "Brandon, if you want NBA quality you shouldn't visit a site which has Antoine Walker and Mike Brown in it's banner"
At first I thought, "Right on, Brother!" Then I thought, "Wait, Antoine 'the Shimmy' Walker was a three time NBA all-star and got paid top dollar in Boston to be a franchise player. And Mike Brown showed himself to be a one-dimensional coach in Cleveland, and then got hired by the Lakers!"
And that made it even better. Hats off to you, sir!
Speaking of which, check out Antoine's pensive picture on his Wikipedia page. Bawful!

I think the guys who have taken over the blog have done good work, but there's really been a problem with the frequency of posts.
I think, as of two seasons ago, BASKETBAWFUL is the most entertaining aspect of NBA.
Who ever had a hand in making such is a greater basketball hero than all bench warmer, king licking, ring pursuers (that is you rest of heat team).
Keep up, for our sake.

Love the site, and hoping for a rebirth.

Unlike what the first poster wrote, Grantland and ESPN don't quite do it for me - I waste many an hour on those sites and appreciate their writing, but Basketbawful has always been my favorite NBA site.
So yeah, it would be really great to have you back. Hope you're still having fun with this.
I love basketbawful. I get excited every time I check it and there's a new post.
Please don't stop.
For me. -waxmonkey
All of you can come back. I like humor in my game recaps.
